The Sendai International Music Competition started in 2001, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Sendai City. The competition, which is held every three years, aims to boost the careers of talented young musicians, and thereby contributing to the promotion of music and international cultural exchange.

Applications accepted for Akiyoshidai International Art Village Residence program located in Akiyoshidai, Yamaguchi prefecture. Return airfare, lodging and studio space, production expenses up to 200,000 yen and perdiems are provided. The residency period is between 22 January and 12 March 2013.

Accommodation and studio space is available for performing artists at Kyoto Art Center for stays of up to three months during fiscal 2013 (1 April 2013 to 31 March 2014). A residency for artists working in the performing arts will be held in 2014.

The Setouchi Triennale, a contemporary art festival that takes place on multiple islands of the Seto Inland Sea, was first held in 2010 and attracted a huge response from hundreds of thousands of visitors. The organisers are calling for art proposals for the second festival to be held in 2013.
